January is almost over and more than milk is still living in denial of the new year. But here we are, officially acknowledging the passing of 2006 so that now maybe we can get on with things. The trouble was, choosing my top albums is too hard, and would only be some permutation of everyone else’s anyway. So instead here’s a recap of the past year in good old top 5 fashion.
Top 5 Albums I Wish I Had Liked Better
Don’t get me wrong. I like these albums. I love these bands. But this time none of them blew me away quite like they have before. Not to be a total pisser, I included my favorite track from each.
1 – Final Fantasy – He Poos Clouds
mp3: Final Fantasy – Many Lives for 49 MP
2 – Mates of State – Bring It Back
mp3: Mates of State – So Many Ways
3 – Tilly & the Wall – Bottoms of Barrels
mp3: Tilly & The Wall – Black And Blue
4 – Hidden Cameras – Awoo
mp3: Hidden Cameras – She’s Gone
5 – Belle & Sebastian – The Life Pursuit
mp3: Belle & Sebastian – Dress Up In You
Top 5 Morality Songs
Happy music is one thing, but these songs have especially uplifting/motivational messages. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I’m just sayin.
Top 5 Sleepy Songs
They don’t make you sleepy necessarily, they’re just really good listening for when you’re going to sleep.
1 – mp3: Ray Lamontagne – Gone Away From Me
2 – mp3: The Radio Dept. – A Window
3 – mp3: The Whitest Boy Alive – All Ears
4 – mp3: Peter, Bjorn and John – Paris 2004
5 – mp3: Camera Obscura – Country Mile
Top 5 Swedes Invited To My Party
I still don’t understand how it’s possible, but half of the best of every sort of music is coming from Sweden. And when I want to dance, this is who I want around. And who I’ll stalk whenever I get myself to Sweden.
I could go on, but that actually sums up the year’s listening pretty accurately. Now on with the year.
